We caught up with long-time employee Scotty Magee to find out a little bit more about him and his role at Ballymore Racing.
Tell us your role at Ballymore Racing and how long have you worked with us?
Have worked for Ballymore for 9 years, firstly as Foreman and now I operate the treadmill in the mornings and drive the truck for any horse movements in the afternoons.
Give a brief overview of what a day at BMR would look like for Scotty?
4am – 7.30am Treadmill between 4-8 horses which gives the horses good variety to their work. I then drive the truck anywhere needed that day (Races/trials/spelling farm etc)
What do you most enjoy about being a part of BMR?
Being part of a team and driving the horses safely to the races. (Hopefully bringing back a winner)
Tell us some memorable moments about your time so far at Ballymore Racing? Can be both on and off the track!
On The Rocks winning the 2019 Group 1 Herbie Dyke Stakes was a particular highlight as ‘Smudge’ was a big favourite amongst us all and still is to this day. Also travelling with Arrogant to Sydney where he finished 2nd to The Autumn Sun in the 2019 Rosehill Guineas. What could have been!
Who is your horse to follow?
A 2yo Gelding called Affirmative Action. He has just spent 3 weeks with me on the treadmill building his fitness up after a spell and is definitely one to watch as a 3yo next season.
Tell us a fun fact or something that no one would know about you.
I have travelled all over the world riding and looking after some of the best racehorses in Australasia including Miss Andretti, SubZero and Makybe Diva.
